Marie Louise Nijsing is a Dutch photographer who focuses on fine art photography of ceramics and still lifes from the 17th and 18th centuries. In her work, she explores how heritage and craftsmanship can be made visible and tangible again within a contemporary context.
In her recent series Passe-Partout, she photographs 17th-century Delftware in still lifes where the object appears to break through the frame. The flowers she uses are species historically cultivated in the Netherlands, merging past and present within a single image.
Following her research on Delft Blue, Nijsing now turns her attention to ceramics from other European regions. She approaches heritage as a living language, exploring how forms and styles travel through time, taste, and culture. In her role as a contemporary interpreter of heritage, she forges a connection between our collective history and a new generation of viewers.
She is currently researching antique English porcelain, but also stoneware and jasperware, German antique Meissen porcelain for a new series of still life art.
Marie Louise Nijsing is een Nederlandse fotograaf die zich richt op fine art fotografie van keramiek en stillevens uit de 17e en 18e eeuw. In haar werk onderzoekt zij hoe erfgoed en ambacht opnieuw zichtbaar en voelbaar kunnen worden in een hedendaagse context.
In haar recente serie Passe-Partout fotografeert zij 17e-eeuws Delfts aardewerk in stillevens waarin het object de lijst lijkt te doorbreken. De bloemen die zij gebruikt zijn soorten die historisch in Nederland werden gekweekt, waardoor verleden en heden in één beeld samenkomen.
Na haar onderzoek naar Delfts blauw richt Nijsing zich op keramiek uit andere Europese regio’s. Zij benadert erfgoed als een levende taal en verkent hoe vormen en stijlen door tijd, smaak en cultuur reizen. In haar rol als hedendaags vertaler van erfgoed maakt zij de verbinding tussen onze collectieve geschiedenis en een nieuwe generatie kijkers.
