Some things have a great cultural influence. People in their 20s and 30s still talk about Harry Potter with great enthusiasm, and any joke you make about it is guaranteed to land with this group. (Well, unless the joke is offensive. Or you clearly haven’t read the books or watched the movies. It can be a tough crowd under certain circumstances.) It’s become part of their culture. It will also, probably, never leave.
Similarly, cultural influence is strongly felt in areas of a city, in architecture, in the way something is (visually) designed — inside or outside. The old purpose of a certain area will likely influence how new elements are added. Even though Philips’ headquarters have already left Eindhoven, it is still called “The City of Light”, and it still organizes festivals and builds intriguing architecture based on this idea of “light”.
Photographs are a great way to capture this cultural influence. And that is what this category displays.
100 Years Young 100 Jaar Jong
In de serie “100 jaar jong” dragen jonge meiden van nu de aantrekkelijke mode van hun voorouders uit de streek waar zij wonen. Deze mutsen werden in heel Brabant gedragen, en naast dat het vaak gold als een statussymbool, was het ook een verfraaiing van het uiterlijk, zoals mode dat altijd was en is. De mutsen, gedragen door de overgrootmoeders van de meiden in de foto’s hebben niet aan schoonheid ingeboet.
