Still life Photography Stilleven

Centuries-old objects, carefully chosen from art dealers and museums, find their way into my studio. There, I create still lifes that I visualize long in advance, such as a 17th-century vase with tulips, captured in chiaroscuro. The art works are available in limited edition prints and come with a certificate with a unique number.

Je suis Parisienne 100 years of Parisian history

In Je suis Parisienne, Dutch photographer Marie Louise Nijsing presents a compelling visual and narrative journey through a century of Parisian life. The book features 102 portraits of women born and raised in Paris, each representing a year from 1921 to 2021. These portraits are accompanied by personal stories that reflect the diverse experiences and contributions of Parisian women across generations.

The accompanying exhibition, held at Square d’Anvers in Paris, brought these portraits to the public eye, showcasing the faces and destinies of these women. From the oldest, born in 1921, to the youngest, born in 2021, each woman embodies the spirit and resilience of Paris.

The book is also praised for its’ work for its elegant presentation and the depth of its storytelling, highlighting the diversity and strength of Parisian women. The portraits, set in various locations chosen by the subjects themselves, offer a rich tapestry of Parisian life, capturing both the individuality and the collective essence of the city.

Je suis Parisienne is more than a photographic collection; it is a tribute to the women who have shaped and continue to shape Paris.

European Ceramics Keramiek Europa

Marie Louise Nijsing is a Dutch photographer who focuses on fine art photography of ceramics and still lifes from the 17th and 18th centuries. In her work, she explores how heritage and craftsmanship can be made visible and tangible again within a contemporary context.

In her recent series Passe-Partout, she photographs 17th-century Delftware in still lifes where the object appears to break through the frame. The flowers she uses are species historically cultivated in the Netherlands, merging past and present within a single image.

Following her research on Delft Blue, Nijsing now turns her attention to ceramics from other European regions. She approaches heritage as a living language, exploring how forms and styles travel through time, taste, and culture. In her role as a contemporary interpreter of heritage, she forges a connection between our collective history and a new generation of viewers.

She is currently researching antique English porcelain, but also stoneware and jasperware, German antique Meissen porcelain for a new series of still life art.

Marie Louise Nijsing is een Nederlandse fotograaf die zich richt op fine art fotografie van keramiek en stillevens uit de 17e en 18e eeuw. In haar werk onderzoekt zij hoe erfgoed en ambacht opnieuw zichtbaar en voelbaar kunnen worden in een hedendaagse context.

In haar recente serie Passe-Partout fotografeert zij 17e-eeuws Delfts aardewerk in stillevens waarin het object de lijst lijkt te doorbreken. De bloemen die zij gebruikt zijn soorten die historisch in Nederland werden gekweekt, waardoor verleden en heden in één beeld samenkomen.

Na haar onderzoek naar Delfts blauw richt Nijsing zich op keramiek uit andere Europese regio’s. Zij benadert erfgoed als een levende taal en verkent hoe vormen en stijlen door tijd, smaak en cultuur reizen. In haar rol als hedendaags vertaler van erfgoed maakt zij de verbinding tussen onze collectieve geschiedenis en een nieuwe generatie kijkers.

Beautiful authentic interior of more than a 100 years old. Ms Schilder was born here and lived here all her life.

Dutch: Een origineel lak-interieur van meer dan 100 jaar oud. Er is alleen een bedstede opgeofferd om een wc in te maken. Ook is er nooit een gasfornuis ingekomen: de lucht van oliestelletjes met een pruttelend pannetje hangt nog steeds rond.

Museum Boijmans van Beuningen

Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam, designed by city architect Ad van der Steur, closed in 2019 for a full-scale renovation and modernisation. Three days before its closure, I documented all the rooms, capturing the museum just before it fell silent. The renovation, led by Mecanoo under Francine Houben, is set for completion in 2029.

This section features photographs of inhabited historic interiors. It includes homes that have been lived in by the same people for over 50 years. The interiors, all located in the Netherlands, have been fully documented: from front door to back door, from cellar to attic.

Deze rubriek bevat foto’s van bewoond historisch interieur. Hieronder vallen huizen waarin al langer dan 50 jaar dezelfde mensen wonen. De interieurs komen uit Nederland en worden doorgaans helemaal gefotografeerd — voordeur tot achterdeur, kelder tot zolder.

100 Years Young 100 Jaar Jong

Is the title given to these thought-provoking portrait series of girls wearing traditional, historical bonnets. Each image captures a dialogue between past and present, showing how heritage and memory can live on in contemporary faces. The series was showcased at the Van Gogh Museum in Nuenen, inviting viewers to reflect on the passage of time, innocence, and tradition. It features the bonnet that is actually worn in The Potato Eaters by Vincent Van Gogh. Through these portraits, the exhibition highlights the charm and individuality of each subject, while referencing historical fashion and Dutch cultural heritage.

100 Jaar Jong / 100 Years Young blends photography, costume, and storytelling to create a visual bridge between generations, encouraging reflection on continuity, identity. The collection is now on permanent show in the Maxima Medical Centre in Veldhoven.

Industrial Heritage Eindhoven NRE terrein

Commissioned by the City of Eindhoven, I documented this neighbourhood in the middle of the city of Eindhoven for 5 years.

The NRE site is a small but lively and creative area just outside the city center. The site was founded in 1899, and has a long history as a former gasworks site. It has since undergone a number of transformations. Eleven exceptional factories form the basis of the NRE site. The area is transforming into a small-scale, lively and creative city neighbourhood where housing, work and culture meet.
